Data We Collect

v2Sub collects no personal information. Your videos, audio, and subtitles are processed and saved on your Mac, and the developer never receives them: speech recognition runs offline with the bundled Whisper engine (whisper.cpp), so audio is never uploaded, and translation is performed on-device by the translation framework built into macOS. There are no developer servers and nothing for us to read — no files, tasks, or generated subtitles ever reach us. The app includes no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.

Permissions & network: the app requests no system permissions such as microphone or camera — audio is extracted directly from the video file, never through a microphone. Network connections serve three purposes. (1) Downloading speech models — the Whisper and Silero VAD models come from a public model repository, are downloaded only when you first use or switch a quality tier, and are then stored locally; you can choose Hugging Face or the hf-mirror.com mirror for model downloads, and the repository provider may receive connection information, such as an IP address, needed to serve the request. (2) Downloading translation language packs through the macOS system mechanism — the system may prompt to download a pack the first time a language pair is used in a bilingual or translated task; packs are delivered by Apple. (3) Communicating with Apple via StoreKit to load products, complete purchases, restore purchases, and verify membership status. Like ordinary web access, these requests let the respective provider see your IP address, but none of them include your videos, audio, or subtitles. Purchases and payments are processed by Apple; the developer does not collect payment details. On-device inference uses the open-source whisper.cpp library (statically linked, with no networking or telemetry code).

How We Use Information

Any information described above is used only to keep the app working properly, respond to your support requests, troubleshoot and fix issues, and improve the product. We never use it for any other purpose, never for advertising or profiling, and we never sell it to anyone.

Data Storage & Security

v2Sub is designed around data minimisation: your data stays on your device by default (or syncs, at your option, to a cloud account you control), and our servers do not store your data. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information received through support channels from unauthorised access — though no system can promise absolute security.

Third-Party Services

This app integrates no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We never collect or store your payment details — purchases are processed by Apple.

Retention & Deletion of Support Inquiries

When you contact us by email or similar means, we receive the information you provide (such as your email address and a description of the issue). We keep it only as long as needed to handle your request; you may ask us to delete it at any time.

Your Rights

Under applicable laws and regulations (including the Personal Information Protection Law of the People's Republic of China), you have the following rights:

• Access & correction — view and edit your content and settings in the app at any time;
• Deletion — uninstalling the app removes data inside the app container; content you exported to a folder of your choice or elsewhere is not deleted automatically and can be managed in its location; if you enabled cloud sync, you can also delete data in the corresponding cloud service;
• Withdrawing consent — you can revoke permissions anytime in system settings; revocation does not affect data already stored locally;
• Account deletion — not applicable: the app requires no account.

Protection of Minors

v2Sub is a general-audience app. We never knowingly collect personal information or market to minors. Under the Personal Information Protection Law of the People's Republic of China (PIPL), personal information of minors under 14 is sensitive personal information and may only be processed with a guardian's consent. If you are under 14, please read this policy with a guardian and use the app only with their consent. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a minor under 14 without guardian consent, we will delete it as soon as possible.

Updates to This Policy

This policy may change as the app evolves. Material changes will be announced in the app or on this page with a new effective date. Continued use means you accept the updated policy.

Governing Law

This policy is governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China and applies to all supported platform versions of v2Sub.

Data Retention & Uninstall

Removing the app does not automatically delete subtitles, checkpoint files, or other files in an output folder you selected. You can manage those files in that folder. Models, settings, and temporary files inside the app container are subject to the system’s app-removal and data-management behavior. v2Sub currently has no built-in iCloud sync. If you choose a folder managed by a cloud service, its settings govern synchronization.
